2024 Garden Planting Calendar: When to Plant Vegetables

Create a garden planting calendar for your area and environment to maximise harvest and vegetable crop development. Seasonal 2024 garden planting calendar:

Cool-season vegetables: Plant cool-season crops when the soil is workable and frost is gone. This comprises lettuce, spinach, kale, peas, carrots, radishes, and broccoli.

Spring (March - May)

Indoor warm-season vegetables: Start seeds for tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and cucumbers 6-8 weeks before the last projected frost date.

Transfer tomato, pepper, aubergine and cucumber seedlings into the garden once frost has passed and the earth has warmed. Seed warm-season crops like beans, squash, zucchini, corn and melons directly when soil temperature is right.

Summer (June - August)

Succession planting: Sow lettuce, radishes, and beans throughout summer for ongoing harvests.

Plant cool-season vegetables again for autumn harvest when temperatures drop. These include lettuce, spinach, kale, carrots, beets, radishes, and peas.

Fall (September - November)

Garlic and onions can be planted in the autumn for harvest the following year.

Winter outdoor vegetable cultivation may be limited by climate. Kale, spinach, Swiss chard and several lettuce species can be grown in cold frames, hoop houses or grow lights.

Winter (December - February)
