Grow a Fernleaf Peony for Fancy Flowers and Foliage

With its unusual foliage and gorgeous flowers, Fernleaf Peonies may offer elegance to your landscape. A general guide to growing and caring for them:

Select a Location

Fernleaf Peonies like full sun to light shade and well-drained soil. Select a place with good airflow and protection from severe winds.

Planting

Fernleaf Peonies should be planted in autumn or spring. In a hole large enough for the roots, put the plant's crown (where the stems grow from the roots) at soil level.

Preparing soil

Peonies like 6.5–7 pH soil. Add lime to acidic soil to boost pH. Add compost or well-rotted manure to promote soil fertility and drainage.

Watering

A taller central plant for height. Water your Fernleaf Peony often, especially in dry weather. But avoid overwatering since peonies hate wet soil, which can cause root rot.

Fertilising

Follow the packaging instructions to fertilise your Fernleaf Peony in early spring using a balanced fertiliser. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers, which promote foliage over flowers.

Mulching

Apply mulch around the plant's base to conserve moisture, discourage weeds, and stabilise soil temperature.
